Watching Fog of War
Friday, November 5, 2004

This Errol Morris film (transcript) is hauntingly powerful. Its relevance to today is obvious but to my mind what matters most is listening to an old man tell his story. Yes McNamara was at the center of many things but we all have stories to tell if we take the time (are given the time) to think. Computers seem to suck time from the air -- thinking time at least. They are faster at many things, yes, but they can easily break time up into unusable chunks. I'm also reading Tyranny of the Moment: Fast and Slow Time in the Information Age by Thomas Hylland Eriksen. I've only just begun but I think he's on the mark.
