The Yellow Admiral
Saturday, September 18, 2004

I found the 18th Aubrey/Maturin novel of Patrick O'Brian significantly more satisfying that the 17th. The Yellow Admiral recounts a difficult time in the life of Jack Aubrey - one in which he fears he may be passed over for promotion and thus become yellowed. The novel spends delicious time on both the naval and home affairs of the characters, developing and deepening our appreciation for them and for O'Brian's masterwork.
