Prey
Thursday, December 23, 2004

Prey is a fast paced romp in a not too distance future where advances in nanotechnology, computer technology (especially distributed AI) and microbiology combine to produce autonomous self organizing particle swarms. Crichton does a nice job mixing science fact and science fiction and the story, while not completely believable, never strays so far from truth that it becomes hard to keep your disbelief suspended. One possible disappointment is that Crichton leaves the ending unclear and unresolved. This is probably for the best, however, as these technologies may be beyond our grasp and our own story - the story of our species on our planet - is equally unclear.
