I don't see what to see in C
Thursday, February 24, 2005

I recently spent a few hours hacking (trying to hack!) gnuchess. What does anyone see in C? There's all this, this, syntax and brackets in odd places and variable declarations and, and, muck. It's horrible. Back in college I wrote C code and actually got paid for it. I liked it. I thought it was cool and that nothing could be more, well, profound that *s++ = *t++. I didn't know any better.

Lisp may have lots of parenthesis (though everyone has seen this, right?) but they all go in the expected places; everything is prefix (we'll leave loop out of the loop, so to speak), and it takes a tenth of the space to say as much.
