This odd little book strolls through snippets of eclectic music, the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction, the sadness at the heart of things, old testament prophets, a Clockwork Orange like dystopia and sex. It's enough to make you think! Russell Hoban's body of work includes science fiction, children's books and opera so it's easy to see how he manages to pull so many disparate sources together. What is hard to understand is how he does it so well! The book is a wonderful read and full of interesting twists and turns of phrase. I'm not sure if it has a deeper meaning, but I'd recommend it regardless.
