Frans de Waal goes ape
Thursday, January 27, 2005

Sorry for the horrible title but Frans de Waal is a comparative primatologist who presents an intriguing and amusing talk over at IT converstations. What's most enjoyable is de Waal's focus on human biology and psychology as drivers of our culture and civilization; we are not nearly so technological as we'd like to think (I should know, I've had years of therapy and seem nowhere near exorcising some of the demons in my past!). Especially interesting is his contention that aggression plays a positive - indeed vital - role in group cohesion.
