Exploiting Relational Structure to Understand Publication Patterns in High-Energy Physics
Amy McGovern, et. al., 2003
Monday, May 3, 2004

This paper covers how the Amy McGovern et. al. at the KDL lab at the University of Massachusetts used the relational structure of citation data to answers questions like:

  • Can we predict why some papers receive more than others?
  • What factors contribute to author influence?
  • What factors contribute to journal publication?
  • What are the communities (schools of thought) in the high-energy physics community?

This is a clear and well written paper and its arguments are easy to follow. In addition, it limns a variety of techniques used within the KDD community for data analysis and hypothesis testing.
