Ender's Shadow
Friday, May 13, 2005

I read Ender's Game about a million years ago when I was in middle school. I loved it. I went on to many other Orson Scott Card books but eventually found them wanting. They were not exactly formulaic but they lacked the humanity of Ursula K. Le Guin's work and sometimes just didn't seem worth finishing.

Ender's Shadow -- a retelling of Ender's Game from the perspective of another character -- is a fun book. It adds depth and class while retaining the series essential character. I enjoyed it. On the other hand, it didn't make me want to search out Card again.
